VOICE

BEGINNING TO ADVANCED Instruction for voice combines traditional methods with heavy emphasis on sound technique and care of the instrument in a contemporary repertoire; Broadway, folk, popular and especially jazz. Theory and the study of jazz is a natural extension of this teaching method, from understanding the harmony and structure and their relationship to the melody, to an understanding of styles and a heavy emphasis on listening to the jazz greats. The most important thing emphasized is the experience of performing, in churches, school ensembles, community functions, sporting events, wherever and whenever the opportunity arises. Students are required to participate in an annual recital open to the public.
